DECRIMINALIZE PSYCHEDELIC DRUGS

 a social media campaign

In the wake of new research findings that point to psychedelic drugs to be more effective in treatment of depression, PTSD and other mental health afflictions, this campaign aims to change how the public views psychedelic drugs to put pressure on Congress to change their legal classification.

MESSAGE

On a federal level, psychedelic drugs are classified as Schedule I, II, and III drugs which are illegal for use despite being less harmful than alcohol and other prescription-based drugs. They can be non-addictive and mild but are still illegal for use.

In recent years, clinical trials have shown the positive effects of drugs like MDMA, ketamine, magic mushrooms and THC (cannabis) on patients that suffer from treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, anxiety and other mental afflictions. Their effects have actually proven more effective than standard treatments and have long-term and short-term benefits while paired with psychotherapy.

If Congress decreased the classification of these drugs or decriminalized them altogether, it could be much easier for more research and clinical trials to be done and for more patients to find a treatment plan that works for them. These drugs can open so many doors for solving the mental health crisis in this nation, and Congress could take action to help the millions of Americans that suffer from these mental diseases.
